Together We Achieve the Great Ends of the Church

"The great ends of the church are the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; the maintenance of divine worship; the preservation of the truth; the promotion of social righteousness; and the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world" (Book of Order of the PCUSA).

Service: a biblical foundation

Toward the end of his life Jesus said, "whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your servant; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life—a ransom for many" (Mt 20:26-28).

Service is at the core of the church's identity and purpose. We serve through the spiritual gifts we bring to the church, getting our hands dirty in local and global mission, and supporting one another in ministries of compassion.
