Memorial members are constantly exploring ways to get our hands "dirty" in Christ's activity in this world. The Mission Team periodically reviews member suggested projects for us to support physically and financially.
Our list will update three times each year (Janary, April, and September). Currently we offer the following activities for your involvement.
Elder Day Care Giver's Morning Out
This new ministry began in September, 2009. We offer care under trained supervision for your elderly parent or spouse in a comfortable atmosphere with handicapped access. This will provide care givers an opportunity to take personal time off during the morning while knowing that their loved one is being looked after securely and compassionately. Please contact us for details, or if you are interested in being part of this ministry.
English as a Second Language
East Montgomery is a convergence of various cultures and one of the ways we are trying to serve the needs of this area is to offer English as a second language to individuals who are here and cannot communicate in English. We have classes for children and adults, and we meet from September - May on Wednesday nights at 5:30 PM. Please contact us for details.
Hank's Home Works
Long-time Memorial member, Hank Staley, is offering to let his accumulated knowledge about home maintenance leak out! He owned a successful design/build decking, remodeling, and landscaping company for over 10 years, built his own lake house, and has been maintaining various properties for over 40 years. This is Memorial’s answer to “The Tool Guy” and you can probe his personal data bank with any question you are pondering regarding your house, apartment, or property. Some common examples might be: Is oil paint better than latex? Is Gas better than electric? Why does my house fill up with smoke when I light the fireplace? What plants grow well in prairie soil? What basic tools do I need as a new homeowner? Should I install a programmable thermostat, and could I do it myself? Do I really need those messy gutters on my house? You get the idea…just include a brief summary of the situation so he can put your question into proper context.

Our Master's Meals
On the second and fourth Thursday of every month volunteers prepare meals in the Church kitchen which are then frozen and picked up by the Montgomery Area Meals on Wheels program. The meals are delivered to the Elderly who are in need of nutritious meals.
Memorial is a member of the national ministry, Prayers and Squares. Prayers & Squares is an interfaith outreach ministry that combines the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt. Unlike many other organizations that make quilts for charitable causes, the purpose of Prayers & Squares is not to make and distribute quilts, but to promote prayer through the use of quilts. Our motto is: "It's not about the quilt; it's all about the prayers." Please contact us for details.
Our prayer shawl ministry is a gift to members, guests, and anyone whom we become aware of that has a special need that requires prayer. A person knits a shawl in the context of Bible study, worship, small groups, etc. This shawl is created in the context of prayer and Christian community. A final blessing of the shawl is given before the recipient receives it. This is one of our anonymous ministries, since the shawl maker does not know who will receive the gift. If you would like a prayer shawl or to become involved in this ministry please contact us.
