To Know Christ

and Make Him Known!

"The great ends of the church are the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; the maintenance of divine worship; the preservation of the truth; the promotion of social righteousness; and the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world" (Book of Order of the PCUSA).

Missions is at the core of the church's identity and purpose.  In Matthew, Christ's departing words to his followers were "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20).  Acts records this great commission slightly differently, but the challenge is consistent.  "You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8).

Relying upon scripture and its constitution Memorial makes mission its priority.  God the Father brought good news to us through the Incarnation of His Son, Jesus Christ, and continues to do so through the work of the Holy Spirit.  As followers of Christ, then, we accept this not only as a gift, but as a charge to be partners with God in his work in this world.  In mission we support the work of people who proclaim the good news of hope and salvation to all whodon't know it.  We also support the work of people who are trying to heal the brokenness and injustices in this world.
