To Know Christ

and Make Him Known!

Welcome!

The search for a new church home is an important part of your faith journey, which involves answering many questions. You may be asking, "Does the church have a good children's program?" "Does the pastor give a good sermon?" "Is this a friendly and inviting community?" Or, "Will this church involve me in its community?"  I'm glad you're taking the time to explore Memorial by visiting this site and I hope we can answer some of your questions.

Scripture shapes our framework of ministry and purpose as a church. Certain passages come to mind. Jesus' final words to his disciples were: "Go out into the world and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Mt 28:19-20).

At the start of the early church Acts tells us, "they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer...they broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people" (Acts 2:42, 46-47). Still another passage which defined Jesus' sense of purpose is in Luke, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me...to preach good news to the poor...to proclaim freedom for the prisoners, and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed" (Luke 4:18).

Putting these scriptures together, we are:

  • A worshipping community

Our style is traditional, our charge is to be relevant, and our goal is that through worship you come closer to the Lord.

  • A missional community

Christ’s last words to his disciples were to go into the world and make disciples of all nations. At Memorial mission means rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands messy for the sake of love.

  • A fun community where ragamuffins gather

Memorial’s a place where real people come as they are to experience God’s grace while having a lot of fun in an imperfect but supportive faith community.

  • A conservative community in the PC(USA)

What does this mean? First, the Lord Jesus Christ is our only source of salvation. Second, the Bible is our only reliable authority in matters of faith and life. Third, scripture and the church’s confessions influence our faith more than culture. Fourth, we’re committed to our connection with the Presbyterian Church (USA), even as we witness to it.

I'm excited about what the Lord is doing at Memorial, and I'm eager for you to be a part of it.

Grace and peace,

Tom
